MacArthur’s Actions Protect South Jersey Jobs, Prevent Harmful Tariff
More than 50 Mt. Laurel Jobs, Hundreds More Throughout the Country Protected Due to MacArthur’s Advocacy
Mount Laurel, New Jersey—Yesterday afternoon, Congressman Tom MacArthur joined PMC Group leadership and Councilman Irwin Edelson to discuss their successful advocacy to prevent a tariff that would severely impact this local company.
PMC Group, headquartered in Mount Laurel, employs hundreds of Americans across the country and more than 50 South Jerseyans. The company contacted Congressman MacArthur following the Trump Administration’s decision to slap tariffs on certain Chinese products. Included on this tariffs list was a chemical that is unavailable in the United States and one that PMC Group depends on to manufacture many of its products.
After MacArthur contacted U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, the Administration removed the chemical from the targeted tariffs list. Now, PMC Group and its hundreds of employees have the certainty that their operations will not be endangered due to the threat of a tariff.
“This is an important day for the Mount Laurel community and the men and women of PMC Group. When the company brought this issue to my attention, I immediately intervened and urged the Trump Administration to change their flawed decision to push a tariff on a product that is not available in the United States. A tariff, in this case, would hinder this local company’s ability to compete on the world stage and put American jobs at risk,” said Congressman MacArthur. “I work with the President when I can and I stand up to him when his policies are not in the best interest of South Jersey. I’m in Congress to achieve real results for Burlington and Ocean Counties and will continue to do what’s right for our community.”
