Majority Leader Greenwald Statement on Passing of Gov. Byrne

From Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington):

“I am sorry to hear of the passing of Gov. Brendan T. Byrne.

“He was an honorable, intelligent man who cared deeply for our state. Whether he was serving his county in World War II, protecting the public as a prosecutor, upholding justice as a judge or breaking historic ground as New Jersey governor by bringing casino gaming to Atlantic City and developing the Meadowlands, among his many accomplishments, Gov. Byrne was an extraordinary man.

“His integrity, sense of humor and decency were second to none and will be missed.

“I send my condolences to his wife Ruthie and his family. Nothing can ease their mourning at this difficult time, but they can take some solace in always remembering the great life lived by Brendan Byrne.”
