Make The Road NJ: Inhumane Treatment of Immigrant Families Must End

Washington, D.C. – In response to Yazmin Juarez’s testimony at the House Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Civil Rights hearing on the inhuman treatment at the border, Nedia Morsy, lead organizer at Make the Road New Jersey released the following statement:

“Yazmin Juarez’s testimony today is a wakeup call to our country. We cannot stand by while children die as a result of the Trump administration’s hateful immigration policies, and our government’s unjust and inhumane treatment and detention of immigrant families must end. It is past time to hold the Trump administration accountable for these horrific conditions. Instead of fighting for real oversight at the southern border, Congress shamefully voted to give another $4.6 billion to the agencies responsible for detaining and separating families. We demand justice for Yazmin’s 21-month old daughter, Mariee’s wrongful death at the hands of ICE, and we continue to fight for respect and dignity for every person who comes to our country seeking a better life.”
