Mayor Adrian O. Mapp Announces Intention to Seek Re-Election
Plainfield, NJ – Marking yet another milestone in a long career in public service Mayor of Plainfield, Adrian O. Mapp announced that he would be seeking re-election in the upcoming Mayoral race.
“My heart is in Plainfield,” said Mayor Adrian O. Mapp “I’ve been in this City for almost 40 years, and my desire has always been to give back to this community and see it prosper and thrive. We’ve had some outstanding achievements over the past three years, but there is more work to do. I’m seeking re-election because I believe in Plainfield and I’m committed to working hard on behalf of every single resident here.”
In 2013 when he was elected, Mayor Mapp promised a future of redevelopment, job creation, safer streets and strong fiscal management for the City of Plainfield.
The city currently has over 60 redevelopment projects in various stages, totaling over $230 million dollars in investment. Unemployment has fallen by almost 8%. Violent crime is down by 30%, and through shrewd management, the city has generated a surplus of over $5 million dollars each year since then.
“Mayor Adrian Mapp has proven himself to be a strong and capable leader. Now more than ever Plainfield needs a Mayor who understands the economic and social implications of the changes that are taking place in our country and he has shown that he is ready.” ~ Jerry Green, Chairman and Member of the Union County Democratic Committee.
“As a leader, achieving results is about building strong alliances, making the best use of available resources, and using your influence to benefit those that depend on you. Mayor Mapp continues to build strong bridges which benefit the wellbeing of all Plainfield residents. The turnaround in Plainfield has been notable, and I believe Plainfield will be well served by re-electing him as Mayor for another term.” ~ Congresswoman, Bonnie Watson Coleman.
“Mayor Adrian Mapp is an extraordinary leader for Plainfield. Under his leadership, crime is down. Trust is growing between the police and the community. Developers are investing in Plainfield because there is growing confidence in the city’s future. And people facing eviction are getting help to remain in their homes. Mayor Mapp is also a respected statewide leader in the struggle for social, economic and racial justice. At a time when Donald Trump is president, Adrian Mapp is the best mayor that a city could possibly have to fight back and defend it against the destructive policies that the Trump administration wants to impose on urban America.” ~ Mayor of Newark, NJ, Ras Baraka
“I have worked with Mayor Mapp in my capacities as a Plainfield City Council member and as a Union County Freeholder and I can say that he genuinely has the interest of Plainfield at heart. His efforts on behalf of the city are tireless, and I cannot think of anyone more invested and more qualified to lead the city for the next four years. If Plainfield wants to keep moving forward, they should cast their vote for Adrian O. Mapp.” ~ Union County Freeholder, Linda Carter
“Sometimes you have to look beyond the borders of your city to find solutions to problems within. Adrian O. Mapp has demonstrated his ability to reach out on behalf of Plainfield and channel resources back into the city. He is greatly respected around the State of New Jersey and understands the bigger issues at stake. I endorse his bid for re-election.” ~ NJ State Senator, Nick Scutari.
Mayor Mapp fought for paid sick time for all workers. He has indicated that providing educational opportunities for all Plainfield students is a top priority, and that will be a large part of his mandate going into a second term.
