Full Assembly
Would Permit Experience, Successful Completion of Exam in Lieu of Course
(TRENTON) – Recognizing the rigorous military training and breadth of knowledge of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, Assembly Democrats Vincent Mazzeo (D-Atlantic) and Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex) released the following joint statement Monday in response to the full Assembly recently approving a measure waiving the boat safety course requirement for honorably discharged veterans, and active duty or reserve members, who provide documentation of maritime training.
The bill (A-3093) would allow a veteran or member of the military to pass a written exam in lieu of the safety course when seeking a boat safety certificate:
“Our honorably discharged veterans, active duty service members and reservists have completed countless hours of training and have relevant work experience that eliminates the need for them to take a class with the same information. These men and women have already proven that they have boat safety skills while fighting for our country and will have the opportunity to exhibit their knowledge and expertise during the exam.”
