McKeon Hails Effort to Ban Fracking in Delaware River Basin

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex/Morris) released the following statement on Thursday on Gov. Murphy’s announcement that he will join with the governors of Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware in support of a fracking ban in the Delaware River Basin:

“Today’s announcement by Governor Murphy supporting a ban on fracking in the Delaware River Basin is another step forward in reversing the disastrous policies under Governor Christie’s leadership.

This decision signals our state’s renewed commitment to invest in modern, clean and renewable energy sources in an effort to reach our state’s  goal of 100 percent clean energy by the year 2050. Today, we begin the process of permanently protecting open space, recreational areas and drinking water for 15 million people living in the region.

By joining with other states from Northeast and mid-Atlantic we will be able to create a bulwark against the anti-environment and pro-fossil fuel agenda of President Trump. We will make sure fracking has no role in our state’s energy future and instead use clean, modern and renewable energy sources that work in the 21st Century.”
