Mikie Sherrill Speaks Out Against GOP Tax Bill at Tax Scam Rally
Today Mikie Sherrill, Democratic candidate for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district, attended the Tax Scam Rally outside Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen’s Morristown office. The rally was organized by Action Together New Jersey and NJ 11 for Change against the GOP tax plan. Sherrill spoke at the rally and voiced her opposition to the GOP tax bill:
“I decided to run for Congress because I am incredibly concerned about our government. There is not a better example of how broken the system in Washington is than this tax bill. We see just how harmful this bill is to middle-class families here in New Jersey. It is a bill put together by a Republican Congress not interested in investing in high-tax blue states like New Jersey. And the fact that Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen led the charge on it, that he is in charge of this broken system in Washington, is unacceptable. We can do better, and we need to send real leadership to Congress.”
More than half of all taxpayers in New Jersey’s 11th congressional district use the state and local tax deductions to lessen their federal tax burden. According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Senate version of the tax bill will add more than $1 trillion dollars to the deficit. Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen voted in favor of the budget bill that laid the groundwork for the tax bill in the House.
