Montero Announces Run for Trenton City Council At Large
Thursday, December 21, 2017 – (TRENTON) – Speaking to a considerable crowd assembled for the occasion, Elvin Montero – a lifelong resident of the City of Trenton – announced his candidacy Thursday for one of three At-Large seats on the City Council.
“I’m running because I’m ready to L.E.A.D. Trenton – I will listen to your concerns, engage the city government, advocate on the behalf of all our residents, and deliver better outcomes for anyone who calls Trenton home,” Montero said.
Montero, a first-time candidate, is no stranger to local politics. As president of the Homeowners Association at the historic Ice House Factory in Chambersburg, he has worked hard to improve the lives of his neighbors and his community; as a local Democratic Committeeman, he has made sure that their needs are communicated to Mercer County’s elected officials.
“I’m proud to call Trenton my home, but our city has problems, and if we’re going to fix them, we need leadership that knows how to draw on all available resources, and use them in a proactive and modern way.”
“We need to draw on common-sense practices to improve the way in which citizens engage with the city government, and to improve how we connect to and communicate with our residents,” Montero said.
If elected, Montero also promised to focus on improving the city’s public safety and security, by changing the way Trenton Police engage with the communities they serve. “I believe that, in order for Trenton to be as great as it can be, we need to change the way people view our city, and change the way that the city views its citizens. To truly provide for public safety, our residents need a positive relationship with their government, and our government needs to act as a partner in encouraging community security.”
Montero further spoke to the need to modernize the often-outdated way in which the city manages its relationship with locals. “We need to look at technologically-based solutions to simplify the way in which the city conducts itself with residents and local businesses, to make Trenton an attractive place to live and work, and to reduce the potential for fraud, waste, and abuse in our government.”
Montero, who both lives and works in Trenton, has been recognized for his hard work on numerous occasions. In more recent months, the Mercer County Democratic Committee named him one of their “Rising Stars.” A lifelong community servant, Montero acknowledged his motivation to help his neighbors: “At the end of the day, I’m running because I think together we can make a difference in the lives of our residents.”
