National Right to Life Endorses Chris Smith for Re-election

WASHINGTON— National Right to Life announced its endorsement of Chris Smith for re-election to the United States House in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District.

“National Right to Life is pleased to endorse Chris Smith for re-election to Congress,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “As the chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, Congressman Smith is a true champion for life at every stage and his leadership is invaluable for the entire pro-life movement.”

Congressman Smith led the charge in Congress for numerous pro-life protections for unborn babies and their mothers.

Congressman Smith opposes using tax dollars to pay for abortion. Chris Smith is the author of the pending No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 18) which would establish a permanent, government-wide prohibition on federal subsidies for abortion and for health plans that cover abortions.

Congressman Smith is the author of the Smith Amendment that prohibits taxpayer funding in the federal employee benefits programs.

Congressman Smith voted against the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, which really should be called the “Abortion Without Limits Until Birth Act” because it would enshrine abortion in federal law and policies, and it would tear down pro-life protections on the state level including parental involvement and informed consent laws.

“Chris Smith’s abiding compassion and concern for the most vulnerable members of our society make him a hero to the pro-life movement,” said Tobias. “We look forward to continuing to work with Congressman Smith to advance vital pro-life policies.”

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of affiliates in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, National Right to Life works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
