National Security Official Andy Kim Outraises Tom MacArthur

MOORESTOWN, NJ – National Security Official Andy Kim’s campaign outraised Tom MacArthur by $80,000 overall, and outraised MacArthur by over $235,000 among contributions from people, not PACs.

According to the latest FEC filing, Kim raised $345,000 to MacArthur’s $267,000. Kim raised over $311,700 from people, while MacArthur raised less than $85,000 from individuals.

I could not be prouder of the people-powered campaign we are building here” Kim said. “With over 6,000 contributions in just the past three months and over 1,000 volunteers, our grassroots support is overwhelming and we’re going to carry this momentum all the way to Election Day.”

Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of MacArthur’s contributions were from corporate interests, particularly within the financial services industry. Koch Industries, the American Bankers Association, and Goldman Sachs are among MacArthur’s top corporate backers.

“MacArthur’s fundraising report exposes the crux of the problem of Washington, said Zack Carroll, Andy Kim’s Campaign Manager. “MacArthur spent all of last year voting for tax giveaways to corporations on the backs of working people and authored a bill to slash health care coverage from 28 million people. MacArthur isn’t looking out for working people, he’s an errand boy for Wall Street.”

Andy Kim has received the support of local and national leaders, including former White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, former Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken, former Democratic Primary challenger Katherine Hartman, Burlington County Democratic Committee Chair Joe Andl, State Senator Troy Singleton, State Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, State Assemblyman Herb Conaway, Burlington County Freeholders Tom Pullion and Balvir Singh, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Rep. Pete Aguilar, Rep. Barbara Lee, Rep. Mark Takano, Rep. Ted Lieu, Rep. Joe Crowley, The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, End Citizens United, and Foreign Policy for America. To date, Kim has raised over $600,000 from over 6,000 contributions in all 50 states.

The third Congressional district of southern New Jersey stretches from the Philadelphia suburbs to the Jersey shore. The district voted for President Obama twice and Democrats hold a party registration advantage. The district is listed as one of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s top priorities to flip in 2018. Andy Kim grew up in Marlton, NJ and still lives in the district with his wife, Kammy, and two young children. He previously served in Afghanistan as a strategic adviser to Generals David Petraeus and John Allen, and worked with under Democrats and Republicans focused on keeping our nation safe.
