New Jersey Citizen Action statement on Governor Phil Murphy’ Affordable Care Act initiatives

Livingston – New Jersey Citizen Action released the following statement today in response to Governor Phil Murphy’s press conference calling for the establishment of a State Exchange by 2021 and for legislation to enshrine Affordable Care Act benefits and protections into New Jersey law.

“The Affordable Care Act has survived countless attacks in Congress, the states, and the courts since its passage in 2010, and the Trump administration has been relentless in its attempts to repeal and dismantle it piece by piece,” said Maura Collinsgru, Health Care Program Director of New Jersey Citizen Action. “Enshrining ACA protections into state law will protect New Jerseyans from any efforts to sabotage and undermine the considerable gains we’ve made under this landmark law. And a state-based exchange opens up opportunities to implement more innovative, affordable health care coverage options as we build towards universal coverage for all New Jersey residents. Once again New Jersey has taken the lead in protecting its residents and responding to the disruptive policies coming out of Washington. We applaud Governor Murphy for championing these initiatives on the day before the ACA’s 9th anniversary.”
