New Jersey Citizen Action Statement on Ousting of  Republican Congressman Tom MacArthur, Victory of Andy Kim

Highland Park — New Jersey Citizen Action released the following statement on the defeat of  Republican Congressman Tom MacArthur  (NJ-3^rd)  by Democrat Andy Kim.

“The constituents of the New Jersey 3^rd Congressional District want a representative who will protect their healthcare and ensure the economy works for everyone,” said Ann Vardeman, program director of New Jersey Citizen Action. “As a staunch Trump ally Tom MacArthur relentlessly attacked our country’s healthcare system while giving tax breaks to the wealthy and the corporations who bankrolled his campaign. He showed time and time again he does not represent New Jersey’s working and middle class families. In Andy Kim, we now have a lawmaker who will put the interests of his constituents and New Jersey first.

“This was a district that MacArthur won handily in 2016, and it was seen as a long shot to flip. But the tireless work of activists, advocates, and organizers across the district for almost two years ensured that MacArthur was held accountable for supporting policies that put profits ahead of people and played politics with people’s lives. “
