New Jersey Outdoor Alliance: Governor Murphy “1,000% Committed” To Rejecting Best Available Science On Ask The Governor
Trenton – Sportsmen coalition speaks out against the restriction of sportsmen from the public lands they pay for.
The New Jersey Outdoor Alliance on Tuesday released a statement condemning comments made by Governor Phil Murphy on News12 New Jersey’s “Ask Governor Murphy” program indicating he is “1,000% committed” to ending the New Jersey black bear hunt, referring to a campaign promise made in his 2017 run for Governor.
“For a sitting Governor to fly directly in the face of scientists and experts that urge the continuation of this conservation management tool to score some points with extremists is absurd.” said NJOA spokesman Cody McLaughlin, “He said he was ‘1,000% committed’ to ending the bear hunt, but what he was really saying was he was 1,000% committed to rejecting the scientific consensus on New Jersey’s bear population.”
In the summer of 2018, Governor Murphy arbitrarily and capriciously restricted bear hunters in the state from pursuing a conservation hunt recommended by the best available science to control the state’s exploding. A coalition of sportsmen’s groups including the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance, Sportsmen’s Alliance, and Safari Club International brought a lawsuit against the Governor decrying the decision. A decision is currently pending.
