New Jersey State Senate Candidate Jill LaZare to Join Jim Johnson’s Slate

LaZare Gives Up County Line to Join Johnson Ticket

This week, attorney and candidate Jill LaZare filed to run for New Jersey’s 21st Senate district on Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Johnson’s slate. By slating with Johnson, LaZare has turned down the “county line,” an advantageous ballot position awarded after securing the endorsement of the county party.

“I am honored to slate with an independent leader of Jim Johnson’s stature. As a former federal prosecutor and Undersecretary of the Treasury, Jim is the most qualified candidate to navigate New Jersey forward after years of Trenton mismanagement and corruption,” said LaZare. “With state Republicans in lock-step with the un-American policies being brought forth by the Trump White House, the time for independent and strong voices for working families is needed in order to rebuild our economy and create jobs, protect our citizens and combat the growing threats of gun violence and opioid addiction. This partnership with the Johnson campaign has one goal: to place New Jersey families first.”

Yesterday, Jim Johnson submitted close to 13,000 petition signatures to qualify for the Democratic Primary ballot. He is the first and only candidate thus far to qualify and receive public matching funds. The Johnson campaign continues to gain momentum and this week, released their second television ad.

“Jill LaZare is the type of leader New Jersey needs — independent. She understands that our state is stronger when our democracy is stronger,” said Johnson. “Jill and I share the same commitment to putting New Jerseyans first instead of the special interests that have overrun this state. I look forward to working with Jill over the next few months to achieve victory in June, and again in November, and to building a Democratic party that puts the needs of the people first.”
