New Jersey UFCW Locals Endorse U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill for Governor
TRENTON, N.J. – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Locals 152, 312, 360, 464A, 888, and 1262, representing more than 66,000 workers across the Garden State, announced their endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey.
“UFCW Local 152 is proud to endorse Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey,” said Daniel Ross, Jr., president of UFCW Local 152. “Our local represents thousands of workers across the state, and with Congresswoman Sherrill as governor, there lies an opportunity to have a strong ally in Trenton who shares our mission to protect workers’ rights and advocate for all working families in New Jersey.”
“Congresswoman Sherrill’s 100 percent record of voting with labor shows that she has been a constant partner to us throughout her time in Congress,” said Robert LaSalle, president of UFCW Local 312. “We know she’ll fight every day to lower health care costs, secure pensions, and improve the lives of UFCW Local 312 members as governor. We’re excited to endorse her and send her to Trenton this fall.”
"Mikie Sherrill has always stood with working people,” said Sam Ferraino, president of UFCW Local 360. “She listens, she shows up, and she fights for the issues that matter to our members—good jobs, fair wages, and the right to organize. We’re proud to support her because we know she has our back."
“Mikie Sherill is my Congressional Representative in the 11th District where I reside,” said John T. Niccollai, president of UFCW Local 464A. “I can personally attest to the fact that she gets involved in everything important and fights tirelessly on our behalf. She is the real deal.”
“I have firsthand experience of the political skills and leadership of Mikie, having lived in the 11th district of Morris County for over 20 years – a ruby red district that she was able to flip blue in 2018 after the retirement of 12-term Republican Congressman Frelinghuysen,” said Max Bruny, president of UFCW Local 888. “She is the fighter New Jersey needs during these challenging times. On behalf of UFCW Local 888, I wholeheartedly endorse Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill as our next governor.”
“Local 1262 is proud to report that our Executive Board voted unanimously to endorse Mikie Sherrill in her bid to become New Jersey’s next governor,” said Harvey Whille, president of UFCW Local 1262. “Mikie is, as they say, ‘the real deal,’ and as governor, will continue to fight for New Jersey’s working families, including our 22,000 members.”
Background:
Congresswoman Sherrill has been a relentless advocate for UFCW members and all working people in New Jersey throughout her time in Congress:
- Congresswoman Sherrill co-sponsored the PRO Act, which would expand the rights of workers to form unions, protect them from union-busting, and allow them to secure strong contracts that raise wages, provide health care, and ensure better working conditions.
- As Congress debates new tax and spending legislation, Congresswoman Sherrill has consistently opposed any cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid, which support thousands of jobs held by UFCW members in the Garden State. Sherrill has a 100 percent record of voting with labor.
- During her campaign for governor, she has committed to appointing a Commissioner of Labor and Attorney General who will strongly carry out all wage and hour laws and vigorously protect the labor rights of UFCW members and all workers in New Jersey.
