The signing of a law by Governor Phil Murphy extending earned sick days to the majority of New Jersey workers comes as an important moment for the state.

The following statement can be attributed to ACLU-NJ Executive Director Amol Sinha:

“The guarantee that people can take time off when their health demands it benefits everyone in New Jersey — workers, parents, children, and anyone who comes in contact with another person. No one should have to risk their job or financial security to attend to their most intrinsic human needs, and now in New Jersey, the vast majority of workers won’t have to weigh that impossible choice any longer.”
