NEW POLLING: New Jersey Voters Find GOP Tax Hike Bill a Serious Liability in Governor’s Race
“59 percent of respondents said they have ‘serious concerns’ about Jack Ciatterelli’s support for” price hike legislation
TRENTON, NJ – Donald Trump’s price hike bill, which Jack Ciattarelli said he’d personally harass every member of the New Jersey congressional delegation to vote for and shame any Republican who didn’t, is a major liability for Ciattarelli in the governor’s race this year.
A new survey from Public Policy Polling commissioned by the Democratic Governors Association finds that:
- “53% of New Jersey voters oppose the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ recently passed by Congress, while just 36% support it. Crucial independent voters feel the same way, with 55% opposing the bill and just 36% supporting it.”
- “The bill is tipped to have a key impact in this year’s Governor’s race as well, with 53% of voters saying they’d prefer a Governor who opposes the bill while just 39% say they’d prefer a Governor who supports it.”
- 50% of voters said the fact Jack Ciattarelli supports the budget bill, saying that as governor he would be "calling every one of [New Jersey's] fourteen members of the congress... to make sure they're voting yes," and suggesting that Medicaid cuts that could strip away care from 350,000 New Jerseyans isn't “a New Jersey issue,” gives them very serious concerns, with just 36% saying it gives them no real concerns.
- “A key driver of unhappiness with the bill involves cuts to Medicaid”

“Jack Ciattarelli’s ‘100% MAGA’ support for everything Trump does as president is already coming back to haunt him in this race – as this polling shows, the more New Jersey voters know about Trump’s price hike bill the more they hate it, and they’re deeply concerned that Jack Ciattarelli is all for kicking hundreds of thousands of people here off their health care. Their choice is clear: Mikie Sherrill has a track record of fighting to protect vulnerable New Jerseyans and standing up to Trump, and Jack Ciattarelli cheered for NJ FamilyCare to be decimated and costs going up for New Jersey families,” said New Jersey Democratic State Committee spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki.
