Assemblyman Joe Danielsen Calls For Clarity Around World Cup Planning By New Jersey Transit

Somerset, NJ - I am proud to represent a district in the Assembly that is a hub for commuters. New Brunswick Station is at the literal and figurative heart of our District 17 community, where thousands of riders rely on New Jersey Transit trains to get to work in New York City. That is why I am concerned about reports that in the four hours before each World Cup Match at MetLife Stadium, New York Penn Station will be closed to NJ Transit riders, with only persons with tickets to the matches allowed to ride.

While I of course understand that preparations have to be made to ensure the World Cup proceeds smoothly, such prep cannot be done at the expense of those regular citizens who depend on public transportation to get to work. Therefore, I am requesting that Legislators in both Houses be given more information on this proposal, as well as possible alternatives that will allow for a smooth experience for World Cup fans that does not come at the expense of those just trying to get to work.

NJ Transit is one of the greatest institutions in our State, and I want to make sure everyone knows I am committed to supporting it and all those who rely on its services.
