NJ Legislative Black Caucus (NJ LBC) Statement on FY2026 Budget

The New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus (NJ LBC) recognizes the passage of the FY2026 State Budget and highlights the advocacy of its members, who worked diligently throughout the process to ensure the voices and needs of New Jerseyans, particularly those in historically underserved communities were heard and prioritized.
At a time when the cost of living continues to burden far too many New Jerseyans, especially Black and Brown families; this budget takes meaningful steps to ease that strain. The NJ LBC fought for increased energy assistance credits to help families keep the lights on, stay cool in the summer, and keep their homes heated in the winter.
We are proud to have championed the continuation and strengthening of cornerstone affordability programs such as Stay NJ, Anchor, and the Senior Freeze. These initiatives offer much needed tax relief and stability for homeowners and renters, allowing families, especially seniors, to remain in the communities they have helped build.
This budget also includes critical investments in harm reduction centers that save lives and deliver care with dignity to those facing substance use challenges. It expands access to mental health services, addressing an urgent and growing need in our schools, communities, and homes.
Additionally, funding for youth development, public health, and community-based safety initiatives reflects the values and priorities our caucus continues to advance. While this budget addresses several crucial issues, far too many New Jerseyans continue to struggle with the rising cost of living, access to care, and economic stability. A New Jersey where every resident has the opportunity to thrive remains our unwavering priority and we know the work is far from over.
The NJ LBC remains committed to pushing for deeper investments, bolder action, and lasting solutions that improve the lives of all New Jerseyans.
