Senate President Sweeney Praises Work of Latino Journalists, Touts Designation of ‘Hispanic Journalist Pride Day’

TRENTON – Senate President Steve Sweeney joined Senator Nellie Pou, Senator M. Teresa Ruiz and Senator Nilsa Cruz-Pérez to commend the contributions of Hispanic Journalists in New Jersey during an event at the State House that recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month.

Senator Pou (D-Bregen/Passaic) had recently presented a joint resolution with Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-Essex) and Senator Nilsa Cruz-Pérez (D-Camden/Gloucester) to designate September 20th of each year ‘Hispanic Journalist Pride Day.’ The resolution was signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy.

“I want to praise the work of Hispanic journalists in service to their communities and to the State of New Jersey,” said Senator Sweeney. “Everyone in the Hispanic community takes pride in the professionalism and the accomplishments of the journalists, just as we all take pride in the success of Senator Pou, Senator Ruiz and Senator Cruz Perez, all of whom are chairs of important Senate committees. I value their work as my colleagues and friends.”

Senator Sweeney also talked about his determination to address the need to allow drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants.
