NJDSC Adopts Delegate Selection Plan for 2024 Democratic National Convention

State Party Recommits to Inclusivity, Diversity, And Fair Representation in Choosing Convention Delegates

TRENTON, NJ –  The New Jersey Democratic State Committee has voted unanimously to adopt the party’s Proposed Delegate Selection Plan for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. This strategic plan outlines the process by which New Jersey Democrats will select delegates to represent the state at the national convention, while reinforcing the party’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity, transparency, and grassroots engagement. The Plan will now be submitted to the DNC for final approval.

“One of the main priorities of the NJDSC is ensuring an inclusive and fair nominating process that reflects the rich diversity of our great state,” said NJDSC Chairman, LeRoy J. Jones Jr. “Every voice deserves to be heard and we are committed to providing opportunities for all Democrats to participate in shaping the future of our party. Together, we can build a stronger and more inclusive Democratic Party that also ensures that the people of New Jersey are fully and fairly represented at the Democratic National Convention.”

New Jersey’s allotment of delegates includes 127 delegates and eleven alternates. Beginning January 2024, individuals interested in becoming district delegates to the 2024 Democratic National Convention will submit an application to the NJDSC. Potential delegates must also follow the State’s ballot access requirements to run alongside their preferred presidential candidate.

The plan embodies the core values and principles of the Democratic Party, while ensuring a fair and representative delegate selection process by including provisions that guarantee the participation of historically underrepresented communities, such as people of color, women, young people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and individuals with disabilities. Beginning this fall, the NJDSC will hold information sessions in person and via Zoom to provide more information about the Plan to our Democratic community.
