Paramus Honors 100-Year-Old U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

World War II “Greatest Generation” Hero to Celebrate a Century of Life and Service
Paramus, New Jersey, August 12, 2025— The Borough of Paramus is proud to celebrate the 100th birthday of Frederick Charles Reich, a distinguished United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and beloved member of our community. Fred will mark this extraordinary milestone on August 18, 2025, surrounded by family, friends, fellow veterans, and community members.
Born in New York City, Fred answered the call to serve on his 18th birthday, motivated—like so many of his generation—by the attack on Pearl Harbor. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the 2nd Marine Division, 10th Regiment, H Company, fighting in the pivotal Battle of Saipan and later stationed in Agrahan and Nagasaki during the final days of the war.
After returning home, Fred married his childhood sweetheart, Gloria Strolla, and together they raised four sons. He worked as a steam fitter in New York, dedicating himself to providing for his family and ensuring that his children would be the first generation in their family to attend college.
“Fred represents the very best of America’s ‘Greatest Generation’—courage, sacrifice, and an unshakable sense of duty,” said Pete J. Lupo, Veterans Service Officer for the Borough of Paramus. “His life story is one of patriotism, hard work, and love for family and country.”
The Borough of Paramus, along with Care One and the Veterans Administration, invites the community to join in honoring Fred’s remarkable life and service. This celebration is not only for Fred, but for all who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms.
