PARSIPPANY STARBUCKS BARISTAS WIN UNION ELECTION, JOINING FAST-GROWING UNION MOVEMENT

Parsippany store becomes 6th location in New Jersey to win union, as historic union victories mount, bargaining continues within Starbucks and Workers United’s new path forward

Parsippany, NJ — The wave of Starbucks worker victories continued today as workers at the Troy Hills store overwhelmingly voted to join Starbucks Workers United – joining more than 440 stores and 10,500 workers who have unionized with Starbucks Workers United in just three years. With a vote of 16-0, partners at Troy Hills became the 6th Starbucks location in New Jersey to join Starbucks Workers United as workers continue to meet Starbucks at the bargaining table to negotiate a foundational framework intended to form the basis of store contracts.

“Now that our store has won our union, I’m super excited to see how upper management and our store partners can grow together and equally hear each other out,” said Ajay Gobind, who has worked for 5 years at the Troy Hills Starbucks. “After being a partner for nearly 5 years, this is the

most hopeful I’ve been for the amazing partners I work with, and I cannot wait to see all the success that comes out of it!”

The Troy Hills partners join a quickly expanding, nationwide movement of 10,000 baristas organizing together to win a first contract that gives them justice at work, including protections on core issues including respect, living wages, racial and gender equity, and fair scheduling. The historic organizing campaign, one of the most successful in decades, hinges on peer-to-peer organizing led by workers, for workers – and has won election after election in stores nationwide. In late February 2024, Workers United and Starbucks announced an agreement to begin discussions on a foundational framework for collective bargaining agreements for represented stores and partners – a major sea change from just weeks prior.

Since December 2021, more than 440 Starbucks stores in 43 states and the District of Columbia have successfully unionized — more than any other company in the 21st Century, as Starbucks Workers United has taken the industry and world by storm.
