Pascrell Belittles Trump Lawsuit Against Congress

Move is latest stunt to block oversight of crimes and corruption

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today reacted with ridicule to a report that Donald Trump was suing the House Ways and Means Committee, as well as the state of New York, to block release of his business and personal tax returns.

“We’re entering Alice in Wonderland territory,” stated Rep. Pascrell, a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee. “First Congress was forced to sue this administration to conduct oversight of corruption. Now Trump is suing Congress to block that oversight. With this lawless administration up is down, left is right, and war is peace. This lawsuit is a pathetic stunt, not worth the forms it’s printed on, and should be laughed out of court. They’ve blocked congressional testimony, they’ve obstructed prosecutorial investigations, and they’ve abused executive privilege – all to protect Trump’s malfeasance. Given Trump’s ferocity to prevent so much as a sunbeam of oversight into his records, and the crimes we already know about, the question remains: what the heck is he is hiding?”

Rep. Pascrell has been the most vocal proponent of the Congress reviewing President Trump’s tax returns. Since February 2017, Pascrell has led the call for the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means to invoke Section 6103 of the tax code to obtain Trump’s tax returns. In the 115th Congress, Republicans voted 18 times to block Democratic resolutions seeking the tax returns.
