Pascrell Celebrates Government Wide Appropriations Victories

Proactive legislation allocates millions to communities and working families for Fiscal Year 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted for passage in the House of six government funding bills for the upcoming year in the areas of (1) Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, 2) Agriculture, Rural Development, 3) Energy and Water Development, 4) Financial Services and General Government, 5) Interior, Environment, 6) Military Construction, and Veterans Affairs and highlighted several significant victories for New Jersey and the entire United States.

“Once again, House Democrats have passed a forward-looking investment in the future of America,” said Rep. Pascrell. “A great nation doesn’t just pay lip service and make speeches but invests in child nutrition, clean water, better roads, veteran care, a stronger military, and renewable energy. This legislation does all those things – and more. Our government signals to the American people every chance we can that improving Americans’ daily lives and is what drives us. Here is another blueprint of a great American future the Senate would be wise to enact.”

Child nutrition. $28.6 billion in funding for child nutrition programs. This funding will support roughly 5.6 billion school lunches and snacks. In addition, the bill provides $50 million for the Summer EBT program, $40 million for school kitchen equipment grants, and $10 million for school breakfast expansion grants.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). $111 billion in required mandatory spending for SNAP, including $3 billion for the SNAP reserve fund, which will serve more than 43.5 million people.

Energy efficiency and renewable energy. $4 billion for clean, affordable, and secure energy and ensures American leadership in the transition to a global clean energy economy.

IRS support. $13.6 billion for the Internal Revenue Service, which includes robust increases to improve customer service, enforce fairness in the tax system, and modernize IRS systems.

Postal banking. $6 million for United States Postal Service Non-Bank Financial Services Pilot Programs, which Rep. Pascrell had led in requesting with Reps. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14).

National parks. $3.6 billion for the National Park Service, an increase of $378 million above the FY 2022 level.

Amtrak. $2.3 billion for Amtrak, including $882 million for Northeast Corridor Grants and $1.5 billion for National Network Grants.

Teterboro Airport. The legislation includes language written by Rep. Pascrell to prohibit funds from being used to change weight restrictions or prior permission rules at Teterboro Airport in North Jersey.

North Jersey community projects. In addition to these programs, the appropriations package approved by the House includes $16 million Rep. Pascrell had sought for 11 community projects that will benefit communities in New Jersey’s Ninth District.
