Passaic County Commissioners Award $2.77 Million in Open Space, Farmland, and Historic Preservation Grants

Passaic County, NJ – The Passaic County Board of County Commissioners has approved $2,772,400 in funding through the 2025 Open Space, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund Program, supporting park development and historic preservation projects across the County.

Following a public hearing held on July 15, 2025, initially announced in this press release, the Commissioners finalized $2.77 million in awards for 15 projects exceeding $100,000 each, ensuring that municipalities and nonprofit organizations have the resources needed to enhance community recreation spaces and preserve cultural landmarks.

“Through the Open Space Trust Fund, Passaic County is investing in projects that strengthen our neighborhoods and protect our heritage,” said County Commissioner Director Pat Lepore. “This program reflects our commitment to open space preservation, recreation and historic preservation in partnership with our municipalities and local organizations.”

The approved awards include park and playground upgrades, recreational facility improvements and historic site restorations across 12 municipalities.

  • Bloomingdale – Delazier Field Bathroom and Backstop – $180,000
  • Clifton – Washington Park Playground – $200,000
  • Hawthorne – Wagaraw Field Bleacher Replacement – $125,000
  • Little Falls – Amity Park Playground – $198,500
  • North Haledon – High Mountain School Playground Rehabilitation (Phase III) – $235,400
  • Prospect Park – Hofstra Park Shelter Project – $198,500
  • Ringwood – Stonetown Recreation Complex Playground – $155,000
  • Totowa – Kennedy Park Playground Rehabilitation – $225,000
  • Wanaque – Laurie Field Improvements (Phase II) – $205,000
  • Wayne Township – Community Center Sports Courts Renovations – $250,000
  • Wayne Little League – Dotterweich D3 Turf Field Project – $100,000
  • Wayne PAL – Bleacher Replacement – $100,000
  • Woodland Park – Tennis Court Rehabilitation – $225,000

Historic Preservation

  • Pompton Lakes – Library Exterior & Interior Restoration – $150,000
  • Paterson – Eastside Park Broadway Steps Renovation Project – $225,000
