PEARSON RELEASES STATEMENT ON HISTORIC WIN
(BRIDGETON, NJ) – Freeholder candidate Donna Pearson today released the following statement regarding her victory in the July 7 Democratic Primary:
“This is bittersweet. It was a hard fought battle. Our campaign had to overcome the changes in our voting process brought on by the pandemic and a tough ballot position. Despite all of this, we rallied together, ran a positive campaign, and focused on what matters most: the issues that impact the daily lives of Cumberland County residents.”
“I’m so thankful for my running mates in Column F, Jack Surrency and Tracey Wells- Huggins. There are no words when it comes to thanking my dear friend Jack Surrency. At every turn in this campaign, Jack showed strength, wisdom, and an immeasurable amount of courage.
“Column F would not be Column F without the leadership of Amy Kennedy. Amy Kennedy is going to be the first ever Congresswoman from the second congressional district, and we’re not going to rest until that happens. Amy, thank you!
“We are grateful for the support we received from many organizations, including Working Families NJ, South Jersey Progressive Democrats, PBA Local 231, and the Good Government Coalition of New Jersey. Thank you for everything you did for us.
“We thank all of those dedicated Democrats who worked on this campaign by putting out signs, making the phone calls, educating voters, posting videos and handing out literature. All that you did kept us motivated, focused and encouraged. You made this possible!
“In this moment, at this uncertain time, Democrats need to be very clear about who we are and who we are not. We are the party of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Amy Kennedy. We are not the party of Donald J. Trump or Jeff Van Drew. We stand for something. We embrace principles of fairness, equality and justice. And yes, we are progressive in our thinking.
“That means that we recognize that some things need to change. We are willing to work to bring about those changes to improve the lives of Cumberland County residents. We are and will always be Democrats.
“I wish to extend congratulations to Robert Austino, Carol Musso and George Castellini. I’m looking forward to working with everyone on the Democratic ticket.
“To the Democratic voters of Cumberland County, thank you for having the confidence to vote for those of us in Column F. There is unfinished business; and we have so much work to do because together, we can do more.”
