Rep. Pascrell Statement on President Trump’s Tax Speech

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09), member on the Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s tax speech in Missouri.

“President Trump has chosen to take a backseat when it comes to leading on tax reform. The only uniting principle he seems to have with the Republicans in Congress is tax cuts for the wealthiest. Trickle-down economics didn’t work in 2001 and 2003 and it won’t work now,” Rep. Pascrell said. “There are millions of American families who work hard every day and can’t make ends meet. We should be focusing our resources on raising the floor for all Americans to have an opportunity to succeed. I will not support any tax plan that only aids the top earners and corporations at the expense of the middle class. Furthermore, the American people still have no idea how this President stands to benefit personally from tax reform, and we cannot know until the President releases his tax returns.”
