Russell, Lawler Launch New Campaign Consulting & Public Affairs Firm
GOP strategists Chris Russell and Michael Lawler launched Checkmate Strategies today, a new campaign consulting and public affairs firm that will have offices in New Jersey and New York. The pair also announced that Harrison Neely, former Campaign Manager for Rep. Tom MacArthur (NJ-3) and top political aide to NJ Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean, Jr. would be joining the firm as Senior Vice-President.
The scope of services for the new firm will include General Consulting, Direct Mail, Strategic and Crisis Communications, Public/Government Affairs, Grassroots Organization and Coalition Building, as well as Social Media Management and Digital Advertising.
“Tough races aren’t won with cookie cutter campaigns, and challenging environments aren’t overcome with paint-by-numbers strategies,” said Russell and Lawler in a joint statement.
“Whether it’s winning on Election Day, advancing public policy initiatives, or managing crisis communications, our objective will be to put clients in the best position to succeed by identifying key constituencies and stakeholders, and then developing and delivering messages that move and motivate them into action. We look forward to the challenges and opportunities that await our new firm, and are excited to bring Harrison on board to help us tackle them,” they added.
Russell founded his previous firm, Chris Russell Consulting, in February 2009, and has worked with Republican candidates and organizations across the country on the federal, state and local level, while serving as a communications and public affairs consultant for leading corporations and non-profits. Chris has won nearly 30 Pollie and Reed Awards for his creative direct mail.
Lawler previously served as Executive Director of the New York Republican State Committee, among other positions, where he helped spearhead successful efforts to take back control of the State Senate, elect seven new Republican Members of Congress, and make significant gains on the county and local level. Mike also managed the 2014 campaign of NYGOP gubernatorial nominee Rob Astorino.
