Sarlo Schedules Departmental Budget Hearings
TRENTON – Senator Paul Sarlo, the chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, announced the scheduling of departmental hearings on Governor Phil Murphy’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget proposal, with the committee hearing from top officials on the spending plans for the departments of state government.
“We will review the spending plans for each department to ensure that resources are used efficiently and public services are provided effectively,” said Senator Sarlo (D-Bergen). “I want to take a two-year perspective so we are fiscally responsible with all of our resources and make strategic investments that expand economic opportunities. Our top priority is to make the lives of New Jersey’s residents more affordable, to reduce their cost of living and to provide tax relief.”
Senator Sarlo said he also intends to get an accounting of the federal funds, including the Covid Relief Fund, the American Rescue Plan and plans for the use the infrastructure funds.
The departmental hearings will be conducted in person, accessible via the Legislature’s home page: https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/live-proceedings.
The public hearings, when advocates, organizations and members of the general public have the opportunity to provide input, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 29 and at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 21.
The public sessions will be conducted via Zoom, in order to give more people the opportunity to participate, Senator Sarlo said.
