Schwager, Chung & Hausmann Challenge Cardinale, Auth & Schepisi
to a Series of Debates

LD39 Challengers Seek Three Debates Before Election Day; Two in Bergen, One in Passaic portions of District

Westwood – Legislative District 39 Candidates Linda Schwager, Jannie Chung and Annie Hausmann today sent a letter to incumbents Senator Gerald Cardinale, Assemblyman Robert Auth and Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi, challenging the trio of extreme Christie allies to a series of three debates between now and Election Day.

“During the past several months, we have walked door-to-door in towns throughout the 39th District, speaking with residents who have raised significant concerns about the direction our state is heading in,” wrote Schwager, Chung and Hausmann in the letter. “These residents are eager to hear our views about the many issues facing our communities and our state. As these are critical times, it is essential that we offer residents a robust exchange of ideas and solutions for moving New Jersey in the right direction.”

The letter proposes three debates to be hosted by neutral, nonpartisan sponsors at two locations in Bergen County and one in Passaic County in order for the forums to be accessible to residents throughout the district. The debate schedule would include a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters on October 16 at Westwood Borough Hall, which candidates Schwager, Chung and Hausmann have already accepted an invitation to participate. Schwager, Chung and Hausmann have asked the incumbents to respond within a week of receipt of the letter.

The Honorable Gerald Cardinale, Robert Auth and Holly Schepisi

Dear Senator Cardinale, Assemblyman Auth and Assemblywoman Schepisi:

We are confident that you share our belief that Legislative District 39 residents are best served when they have the opportunity to hear directly from us, as candidates. During the past several months, we have walked door-to-door in towns throughout the 39th District, speaking with residents who have raised significant concerns about the direction our state is heading in. These residents are eager to hear our views about the many issues facing our communities and our state. As these are critical times, it is essential that we offer residents a robust exchange of ideas and solutions for moving New Jersey in the right direction.

We hope that you will join us for three debates between now and November 7, 2017. In order to ensure these forums are as accessible as possible for residents, we propose that they are held in different geographic areas of the district, including two in Bergen County and one in the Passaic County portion of the district. One of the three debates would be the League of Women Voters Candidates forum already scheduled for October 16 at Westwood Borough Hall.

As Election Day is fast approaching, we look forward to hearing from you in the next week in order to find dates and times that work for all of our schedules. Once we agree upon a schedule and debate rules, we can then coordinate the search for suitable nonpartisan hosts and sponsors for these public forums.

Given the importance of this election in determining future of our state, we hope that you will accept our proposal for three debates. We look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Linda Schwager                                  Jannie Chung                                      Annie Hausmann
