Scutari Bill to Require Disclosure of Car Insurance Policy Limits Clears Senate

Trenton – Legislation sponsored by Senator Nicholas Scutari and Senator Nellie Pou, which would require car insurers to disclose policy limits under certain circumstances, cleared the Senate yesterday.

“Injured victims should be able to understand the parameters of a case before they file lawsuits,” said Senator Scutari (D-Middlesex/Somerset/Union). “This legislation will help injured victims make more informed decisions and perhaps cut down on lawsuits.”

The bill, S-2429, would provide that an insurer who receives a request for disclosure of the policy limits must provide them in writing within 30 days from receipt of the request.

The bill would set certain parameters for the disclosure requests, including that it must be submitted in writing.

This bill was released from the Senate by a vote of 27-9.
