SEIU NJ State Council supports re-election of Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz

The SEIU NJ State Council is proud to endorse Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz in her bid for a fourth term.

Mayor Diaz has led with competence and compassion since 2008 and has been a vocal ally for workers as she has pursued economic development for her city. She has fought for fair treatment Perth Amboy workers, including SEIU members in nursing homes, commercial laundries and warehouses.

Mayor Diaz has walked picket lines, attended rallies, and taken official actions to protect workers, including during the coronavirus pandemic. She delivered PPE (personal protective equipment) and other support to nursing home workers. She stood by our members who are fighting for decent working conditions at Target’s warehouse. And, most recently, she rallied with laundry workers seeking greater protections against COVID-19 and a fair contract at a plant that processes medical linens.

“Mayor Diaz is an incredibly proactive and responsive leader who has consistently joined efforts to protect workers in Perth Amboy and beyond. She is committed to those who live and work in her city and her leadership has been invaluable,” said Milly Silva, President of the Council and Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.

“Mayor Diaz has been a steadfast ally in our fight to advance the rights of workers and an effective leader in championing issues of economic and social justice. We strongly support her bid for re-election,” said Megan Chambers, Vice President of the Council and co-manager of Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board, Workers United/SEIU.
