Select Committee for Economic Growth Strategies Will Hold Public Hearing

The Senate Select Committee on Economic Growth Strategies Meeting will hold its first meeting on July 29. Chaired by Senator Bob Smith, the committee was formed in response to the NJEDA tax incentive controversy and subsequent establishment of Governor Phil Murphy’s task force.

Select Committee for Economic Growth Strategies Will Hold Public Hearing

 

Trenton – The special Senate committee established to review the state’s tax incentive programs and make recommendations on the best strategies for utilizing incentives to promote economic growth will hold its next public hearing in November, Senator Bob Smith, the panel’s chair, said today.

 

Senator Smith said the Senate Select Committee on Economic Growth Strategies will schedule a session that is a continuation of the hearing that had participants with a working knowledge of the Economic Development Authority’s incentive programs provide input.  The hearing is needed to gain additional information to help determine what aspects of the programs have succeeded and what improvements should be made, Senator Smith said.

 

Among the businesses and organizations that will be invited to participate will be: Audible; B Positive Blood Services; Burlington Inc.; Catellus/Teterboro Urban Renewal; Connor Strong & Buckelew; Cooper University Hospital; EMR; Forbes Media; Glassboro Urban Renewal; Liscio’s Bakery; Lockheed/Martin; RBH Group (Teacher’s Village); Rent the Runway Inc.; Sandoz, Inc., and Tropicana, among other potential invitees.

 

After the hearings are completed, the committee will issue a report of its findings and recommend legislation addressing the state’s economic development policies to compete with other states, create and retain jobs, and fuel economic growth.
