Senate Budget Panel to Review FY19 Spending Plans for DCA, Corrections/Parole Board, Children & Families  

 

TRENTON – The Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee will meet on Thursday to review Governor Murphy’s FY19 budget proposal for the departments of Community Affairs, Corrections/Parole Board, and Children and Families, said Senator Paul Sarlo, the committee’s chair.

 

The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee’s hearings on Thursday, May 17th  in Committee Room 4 in the State House Annex:

 

  • 10:00 a.m. – Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, Commissioner, Department of Community Affairs and other top officials. The discussion will include Shared Services, Municipal Aid, Property Tax Relief Programs, Urban Enterprise Zones, Superstorm Sandy Update and Affordable Housing.
  • 1:00 p.m. – Acting Commissioner Marcus Hicks, Department of Corrections and other top officials. The discussion will include allegations of sexual abuse at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility; conversion of Mid-State Correctional Facility to drug treatment correctional facility; solitary confinement, and the elimination of re-entry pilot programs funded in FY 2018.
  • 3:00 p.m. – Christine Norbut Beyer, Acting Commissioner of the Department of Children & Families and other top officials. The discussion will include the monitoring report of DCF;  the safety of DCF case workers; proposed funding cuts for CASA; the state of child poverty; the proposed Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, and the DCF Care Management cut.
