Senator McKeon Condemns the Trump Administration’s Repeal of the 'Endangerment Finding'
TRENTON – Senator John McKeon (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement that it aims to revoke the Environmental Protection Agency's 2009 Endangerment Finding:
“The Trump Administration's decision to repeal the Endangerment Finding is a full-scale attack on science, public health, and the future of our planet. The finding is a bedrock determination that greenhouse gas emissions threaten the public's welfare, which has paved the way for much of the legislation we have passed to combat climate change, both in New Jersey and across the country.
"The administration is willfully choosing to ignore settled climate science in favor of fringe reports from skeptics claiming that vehicle pollution is too insignificant to regulate. This is a simply outrageous lie—according to the EPA's own findings, transportation is the nation's largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Now is the time to do more to encourage the adoption of low-emission electric vehicle infrastructure, not to do away with our foundational climate regulations.
"We are already seeing the effects of climate change here in New Jersey. With record-setting flooding and devastating heat waves becoming increasingly common, we must continue to push for a common-sense climate policy and larger investments in clean energy. New Jersey will continue fighting for clean air and a sustainable future, because the health of our residents matters far more than the corporate interests President Trump is beholden to.”
