LINDEN, NJ–  Senator Teresa Ruiz, Senate President Pro Tempore, Legislative District 29 and Chairwoman of the Senate Education Committee came out in favor of Senator Nick Scutari for Union County Chairman.

Senator Ruiz noted, “during my tenure in serving the State, I have personally seen Nick Scutari fight to defend our Democratic principles.  Nick has stood with me to fully fund public education; he fought passionately to restore funding critical for women’s healthcare; and he led our fight to keep unqualified nominees out of our court system.

He’s a tenacious advocate for the principles we hold important as Democrats, and he’ll be an outstanding County Chairman,” concluded Senator Ruiz.

Teresa Ruiz, elected in 2007, is serving her second term in the New Jersey State Senate, representing the 29th Legislative District, which includes Belleville Township and parts of the City of Newark in Essex County. A first-generation Puerto Rican American, she is the first Latina to serve in the State Senate.

Senator Ruiz worked as a Pre-K Teacher after she graduated from Drew University as an English major. She was a First Fidelity Bank Scholar in her junior year of college and spent six weeks studying art and culture in West Africa. A founding member of the Robert Treat Academy, she has served for over five years as a school Trustee. Senator Ruiz is Co-Chair of the Hispanic Scholarship Program for the North Ward Center. She also served as a Trustee of the Essex County Vocational Technical School Board for five years.
