Singer Legislation Establishing “State Trooper Marc K. Castellano Memorial Highway” Passes Senate
Senator Robert Singer’s legislation designating a portion of I-195 in Howell the “State Trooper Marc K. Castellano Memorial Highway” unanimously passed the New Jersey Senate. “New Jersey State Trooper Castellano was an extraordinary public servant who helped protect the people of New Jersey as a member of the State Police,” Singer (R-30) said. “He heroically put his life on the line while attempting to apprehend an alleged armed criminal on a busy, high-speed highway when he was struck by a passing motorist. It is only fitting to rename I-195 in Howell in Trooper Castellano’s honor.” Sen. Singer’s bill, S-470, designates a portion of Interstate Highway Route 195 in the Township of Howell as the “State Trooper Marc K. Castellano Memorial Highway” to commemorate the memory of State Trooper Marc K. Castellano. Trooper Castellano was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident while investigating an incident on Route 195 in Howell. Born and raised in Ocean County, Trooper Castellano was awarded a scholarship from the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association. He received his Associate Degree from Ocean County College, his Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, and his Master’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. “Trooper Castellano was a loving husband, father, son, and brother whose memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow State Troopers,” Singer added. “Whenever people drive through Howell they’ll see Marc’s name and remember his dedication to the community.” |
