Somerset County Democrats Summer Pool Party

This week, the Somerset County Democrats held their annual summer pool party, which included the famous Dunk a Politician Auction.

Commissioner Director Robinson was pushed in this year by LG candidate Dale Caldwell. Other victims included Sheriff Darin Russo, Commissioners Drake, Graner, and assembly candidate Guy Citron.

The highlight of the evening was the willingness of all the presently announced candidates for the 7th Congressional district to auction themselves as a group and take the plunge together. Candidates Rebecca Bennett, Michael Roth, Tina Shaw, Brian Varela, and Greg Vartan jumped hand in hand to help raise funds for candidates up and down the ballot (Several more candidates for CD7 have since announced).

“In Somerset County we always try to bring some fun and irreverence to our work,” said Chairwoman Peg Schaffer. “Good governance and elections are serious work, but it’s important to cool off and knock down our candidates and elected officials a few pegs. If we can raise some funds while doing so, even better.”
