Stanfield: Addiego’s refusal to back bipartisan impeachment articles is disgraceful

Mount Holly, February 12, 2021 – Senator Dawn Addiego’s willingness to call for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to be fired over his mishandling of violence against women issues in the NFL, but failure to sign on to bipartisan impeachment articles against disgraced Department of Corrections Commissioner Marcus Hicks exposes her as a hypocrite who puts partisan politics and cheap press hits over what is best for women, charged Assemblywoman Jean Stanfield today.

“Senator Addiego should answer the question,” said Assemblywoman Stanfield.  “If Commissioner Goodell should have been removed from his job for failing to protect women from violence by NFL players why shouldn’t Commissioner Hicks be removed from his for failing to protect the women at Edna Mahan from violence at the hands of the corrections officers who were supposed to be protecting them?”

Back in 2014, then Republican Addiego, dialed up the rhetoric in a press release calling on Goodell to resign over his “neglect of ongoing domestic violence issues in the NFL” and hammered the NFL boss for his “failure to take immediate steps to prevent these kinds of assaults” and “delaying disciplinary action” against violent offenders.

“Senator Addiego’s hypocrisy on this issue defines her career in politics perfectly,” said Assemblywoman Stanfield.  “For three decades Dawn has been great at jumping up and down and making a lot of noise to get a cheap headline for herself, but when the time comes to actually do something that matters for somebody other than herself, she disappears.”

Stanfield called on Addiego to explain why she refuses to join other female legislators on both sides of the aisle in supporting articles of impeachment against Commissioner Hicks.

“Does Dawn not believe Hicks’ actions merit impeachment?  Has she been told by the Governor and Senate President to stand down?  Or is she refusing to join this fight because I was the one who first pushed the issue?” asked Stanfield.  “No matter her reason, her refusal to join this bipartisan effort is disgraceful.  She owes the public an answer.”
