Statement by Congressman Kim on National Emergency Declaration Joint Resolution
Statement by Congressman Kim on National Emergency Declaration Joint Resolution
WASHINGTON, DC – The following is a statement from Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) on H.J.Res. 46:
“I’ve spent the last week listening to people throughout our district and looking at the impact the national emergency declaration would have on New Jersey. This national emergency declaration unnecessarily puts funding for Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst at risk, directly undermines our national security readiness, forces military families to foot the bill, and violates the spirit of separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution by the founders. This would not be good for the people of Ocean and Burlington counties.
I firmly believe we need to secure our borders and ports of entry. It’s why I voted for a bipartisan bill that prevented a shutdown and provides critical resources to keep our country safe. I heard over and over again from constituents that they wanted leaders to find a way forward, and the President called for bipartisan compromise in his State of the Union speech. That bipartisan compromise is what Congress delivered and this national emergency declaration undermines the spirit of that bipartisan compromise and our ability to get things done for the American people. I look forward to continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on border security solutions that don’t put programs in our district at risk.”
