Statement from Freeholder Young regarding the general election on November 3, 2020
The statement below is by Freeholder Jonathan Young regarding the general election on November 3, 2020.
“President Trump has peddled in internet conspiracies and flagrant falsehoods from the moment he entered politics. Fortunately, he cannot make or change laws by tweet. Despite his statement earlier today suggesting that he’d prefer it otherwise, I want to reassure voters in Camden County that the general election will be held on Nov. 3, 2020, and it will be held in a manner which is safe and secure.
In Camden County we have a long track record of operating a safe and reliable vote by mail system. While we do not yet know what mix of in-person, absentee, and vote-by-mail voting will be utilized come election day, we do know that it will be conducted in a manner which upholds the integrity of our elections and which ensures that every eligible voter who wishes to cast a ballot has the opportunity to do so.
This is not a political position. The date of the general election was set by congress in 1845 and cannot be changed unilaterally by the president. This needless doubt-sowing only further endangers our democracy and erodes faith in our democratic institutions.”
