Statement From NJGOP Chairman On Passage Of S699 (in state tuition of illegal immigrants)

New Jersey GOP Leader Doug Steinhardt says that he thinks NJ Republicans will do well during what he calls the "Murphy Midterms," referring to upcoming elections during the second year of Governor Phil Murphy's term.
NJGOP Chairman Steinhardt released the following statement in regards to the Senate’s passage of S-699, which allows certain students including undocumented immigrants who meet certain criteria to qualify for State student financial aid programs:

“We are a nation of immigrants, but also of laws. People here illegally should not be eligible for benefits available to citizens or those here legally. Taxpayer dollars are a scarce resource and we need Governor Murphy and Democrats in the legislature to prioritize their spending, just like every responsible household in New Jersey does.”
