Statement from

Sen. Colin Bell  & Asm. Vince Mazzeo on Vandalism in Margate

(Margate City, NJ) — Senator Colin Bell and Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo of Atlantic County released the following statement this afternoon following incidents of vandalism aimed at the Jewish community in Margate. Three Hanukkah menorahs were vandalized across the city over the last day.

“Hate has no home in our community, period,” said Senator Bell, a resident of Margate and a member of the Jewish Community Center, where one of the menorahs was vandalized. “During Hanukkah, we dedicate ourselves to shining the light on those who are persecuted and no act of anti-Semitic vandalism will stop us from doing that. Together, as a community, we will continue to persevere, as we have for thousands of years.”

Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo added, “Both Colin and I condemn these acts of hate against our community and we hope that those responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Over the last year incidents of hate crimes have risen dramatically across our country. Hate has no home in Atlantic County. It doesn’t now and it won’t ever.”

According to news reports, the Margate City Police Department is investigating these incidents as a hate crime.
