STOP & SHOP STORES OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY RAISE MORE THAN A HALF-MILLION DOLLARS FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY’S MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Three-Week “Pink Ribbon” Donation Campaign Solicits More Than $600K for the Fight Against Breast Cancer; Largest Amount Raised in Seven-Year Partnership

Purchase, NY (October 29, 2018) –  While pink may be the official color of breast cancer awareness, Stop & Shop is proud to be in the black, announcing its New York and New Jersey stores have raised a record-breaking $608,285 for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign, all thanks to Stop & Shop’s generous customers.

From Oct. 5-21, the heart of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Stop & Shop’s 136 New York and New Jersey stores collected donations via their “Pink Ribbon” campaign. At checkout, customers personalized a donation of $1, $3 or $5, hanging an official pink ribbon donation card in the store, honoring loved ones that have fought cancer.

Additionally, Stop & Shop supported fifteen Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks in New York and New Jersey, supplying more than 200,000 bottles of water free of charge to participants.

“This year, we did more than make strides, we left footprints,” said Steve Kienzle, SVP Sales and Operations South Market for Stop & Shop. “In our seven years supporting the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides campaign, this is the most we have ever raised. We at Stop & Shop are inspired by customers’ generosity and relentlessness to find a cure.”

Stop & Shop’s Long Island stores were the company’s top fundraisers. East Islip collected more than $14,000 at checkout and Levittown more $13,000.

The funds raised by Stop & Shop will not only help support breast cancer research, but will also assist with free patient service programs, as well as awareness and education campaigns.

“Thanks in part to the determination and passion of Stop & Shop employees and customers, the American Cancer Society is able to be there for people in every community affected by breast cancer, whether they’re currently dealing with a diagnosis, may face one in the future, or will avoid it all together because of education and risk reduction,” said Kris Kim, Executive Vice President of the American Cancer Society in the Northeast. “From research to education, prevention to diagnosis, and treatment to recovery, we can provide support to everyone impacted by breast cancer, thanks to the generous support from partners like Stop & Shop.”

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities to celebrate breast cancer survivors, pay tribute to loved ones lost and raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
