Sumter, Murphy & Downey Joint Statement on Bill to Implement Roadside Maintenance Safety Policies Clearing Full Assembly

(TRENTON) – On legislation (A-4588), clearing the legislature Monday (75-0-1), Assembly Democrats Shavonda E. Sumter, Carol Murphy and Joann Downey sponsored to protect roadside maintenance workers:

“Performing roadside maintenance can be hazardous for workers if the right precautions are not taken. Speeding vehicles and low-light conditions can be a dangerous combination for any employee working to repair a problem on highways or even local roads. We can prevent tragic incidents from happening with the proper protocols in place. This legislation works hand-in-hand with the state’s recent implementation of the Move-Over law protecting police officers and emergency vehicles on the shoulder of the road from passing vehicles.”
