TEAMSTERS, NFI WORKERS TO CALL FOR SUSPENSION OF NFI’S TAX BREAKS AT EDA BOARD MEETING

Teamsters and NFI Workers Will Deliver Petition, Publicly Urge EDA to Freeze Lawbreaking NFI’s Tax Giveaways

(TRENTON, N.J.) – On Tuesday, July 16, at the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (EDA) 10 a.m. Board meeting, the Teamsters Union and NFI workers will call on the EDA to rescind tax breaks to NFI, a lawbreaking company that has benefited from nearly $80 million in tax benefits at the expense of New Jersey taxpayers through the Grow NJ program.

Teamsters International Vice President and Port Division Director Fred Potter will join NFI workers in providing public comment, along with representatives from a number of worker and community advocacy organizations. The Teamsters and NFI workers will deliver apetition urging the suspension of NFI’s tax giveaway in New Jersey.

The Teamsters Union is also calling on the state Attorney General to investigate and prosecute NFI for its fraudulent application for benefits, which failed to disclose a prior conviction for three counts of wire fraud and its history of labor violations. Additionally, the company has an extensive record of violating labor laws and illegally misclassifying hundreds of port workers in California.

The recent EDA Task Force report validated concerns raised by the Teamsters over NFI’s tax breaks.
