Timberlake Leads “Covered with Compassion” Effort to Help Women with Health-Related Hair Loss
Wig Giveaway Will Feature Stylist, Massage Therapist, Nutritionist, Beauty
Makeovers, and Health Education
(TRENTON) – Women suffering from health-related hair loss will get a complimentary wig as part of “Covered with Compassion”— a wig giveaway sponsored by Assemblywoman Britnee N. Timerlake (D-Essex, Passaic), in partnership with Susan G. Komen North Jersey, East Orange General Hospital, City of East Orange Division of Senior Services, University Hospital, and the Montclair Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
“Whether it’s hair loss because of a medical condition, such as alopecia areata, or chemotherapy to treat cancer, experiencing hair loss can be extremely frustrating,” said Timberlake. “Dealing with a health issue is already stressful physically and emotionally. Those issues, combined with the changes in appearance such as hair loss, can make the illness even more overwhelming. Our hope with ‘Covered with Compassion’ is to provide women with a wig and other resources that can provide them with some comfort.”
In addition to a wig, participants at “Covered with Compassion” will have the opportunity to sit with a stylist, and receive massage therapy, nutrition and health education, beauty makeovers, and free refreshments.
It will be held 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the East Orange Senior Center, 90 Halsted Street in East Orange. Call (973) 266-8430 or (973) 951-9898 for more information.
