Councilwoman Jennifer Williams (North Ward) was declared the victor for a third time in Trenton’s North Ward City Council election – this time by a final tally of 429-427, after Judge William Anklowitz’ decision in Mercer County Superior Court. Williams’ lead increased by one vote after Judge Anklowitz ruled that an overvote, in which a voter first voted for her opponent and then crossed out that vote, then voted for Williams should have been counted by the Mercer County Board of Elections.

North Ward City Councilwoman Jennifer Williams said, “I am very glad and relieved that we have finality in this North Ward election, more than three months after our November election date. I’m excited to continue working to serve the good people of the North Ward and continue building on all that we have accomplished already since January 1st. The trust and hope instilled in me by the voters of the North Ward is something that I cherish and try to honor each day. At least for this next year or so, I can now represent them without the distraction of a seemingly unending election.”

Councilwoman Williams added, “After the hearing was over and Judge Anklowitz ruled in my campaign’s favor, I walked across the courtroom to my opponent and offered him my hand in peace and goodwill. He shook my hand and we agreed that our North Ward needs a lot of work to get done. I look forward to making that happen and I know that my opponent wishes me well, as I do for him. Algernon has given a lifetime of service to our city; and I know he will continue to be a part of our great city’s future.”
