Trenton Launches New COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program

Trenton, N.J. – Mayor W. Reed Gusciora today announced that eligible low-income individuals and families in Trenton who are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19 can apply for a one-time $3,000 rental assistance payment through the new HOME Tenant-Based Rental Assistance program (TBRA).

TBRA is managed by the City’s Department of Housing and Economic Development. The program provides up to $3,000 per qualifying household to help pay past-due or upcoming rent and utility bills.

This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development HOME Investment Partnership Program.

“This pandemic is unlike any other challenge in our lifetimes and continues to have a profound effect on our residents, especially those who are out of work,” said Mayor Gusciora. “I hope this rental assistance gives Trenton tenants some peace of mind while we navigate our way out of this crisis.”

Assistance will be available to Trenton residents who:

• Rent an apartment or house in the city.
• Have been a resident for at least three months before the application for assistance.
• Were current on rent payments up until March 13, 2020.
• Can provide documented financial hardship that is directly related to COVID-19.
